This does mean that the books can get very pricey still. Eventually with a Codex needing 3 Tomes, and each Tome needing 5 Manuscripts, you will be looking at producing 15 Manuscripts and 3 Tomes before producing a single Codex. While this might make Science seem unappealing, it's worth keeping in mind that Manuscripts on their own never become excessively expensive, so there's no real reason to not consider filling out all of your specialists with Manuscript level skills over time.

I would advise only leveling just one geologist as he'll be more than able to do the most commonly used resources (refill marble and copper) whilst saving the rest of the books for x amount of explorers.
ReplyDeleteMy plan as of yet is to level one copper/marble/gold geo and one adventure explorer, then stock up books for the next feature.
I went with 2 Geologists as far as Copper/Marble due to not being patient enough to wait for the single one to find it all, but after that will continue just stocking up books for the upcoming trees.
DeleteHi Thrade, I was wondering if you have any handy hints on how to complete the request in the quest book at Level 31, where it asks you to invest 10 tomes in one explorer and in one geologist. I have been working on investing the tomes in one of my explorers, and got to 9, and found out I've somehow chosen incorrectly and can't invest that last tome, even though I've got it in stock. Not sure what I've done wrong :-( Thanks in advance!!

DeleteExplorers are only capable of having 21 books applied to them in total, regardless of which type of book is used. If you've gotten to 9 and can't add another, I'd have to suspect you've got 12 books already filling out your manuscript layer.
If you've already locked in the earlier books (I'd assume you have), you will either need to refund the books, or, for the purpose of completing the quest, work on adding books to a different Explorer ensuring you don't put in too many manuscripts.
You only need 5 books per layer, and to be of the correct level, to unlock the next layer. So for explorers, you only *need* to place 5 manuscripts in somewhere.
